BURBANK, CA–(Marketwire – Aug 1, 2011) – Multi-platinum singer and songwriter Jason Derulo will release a new single, entitled “It Girl,” to radio on August 3rd and to all digital service providers on August 9th. The track is the second single from the Miami-born 21-year-old’s upcoming new album Future History, which will be released by Beluga Heights/Warner Bros. Records on September 27th, 2011. Derulo recently shot a video for “It Girl” directed by Colin Tilley, who has lensed clips for Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, Usher, Diddy, and Ciara, and has been nominated for three 2011 MTV Video Music Awards. The video features actress Tika Sumpter (Gossip Girl, The Game). Derulo will perform on America’s Got Talent on August 3rd and at The Teen Choice Awards on August 7th. He is currently nominated for two 2011 Teen Choice Awards for “Choice Music: Male Artist” and “Choice Music: R&B/Hip-Hop Track” for “Don’t Wanna Go Home.”
“It Girl” follows on the heels of “Don’t Wanna Go Home,” which spent five consecutive weeks in the Top 10 at Pop radio. Its accompanying video is Derulo’s fastest-rising video yet on his YouTube channel, one of YouTube’s largest music channels, where Derulo has racked up nearly 375 million total views. (See “Don’t Wanna Go Home” here: www.youtube.com/user/JasonDerulo). “Don’t Wanna Go Home” and “It Girl” are Derulo’s first new tracks since he established himself as a pop sensation with a string of red-hot hits last year: “Whatcha Say” (which spent four consecutive weeks atop the Pop chart and has sold 3.5 million copies), “In My Head” (2.7 million sold), and “Ridin’ Solo” (2.5 million sold) off his self-titled debut album, Jason Derulo.
Derulo, who has sold more than 13 million singles and 850,000 albums worldwide, is the first male solo artist to score consecutive No. 1’s on Billboard’s Pop Songs radio airplay chart in the chart’s 17-year-history with his first two entries. Derulo won five awards at the 2011 BMI Pop Awards including “Songwriter of the Year,” which he shared with Lady Gaga and his debut album’s producer JR Rotem. He has won a Teen Choice Award (for “Choice Music: Album, R&B”) and has been nominated for a 2011 NAACP Image Award, an American Music Award, an ARIA and MOBO Award, two 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, two MTV Europe Music Awards, and a Much Music Award. Derulo has streamed nearly 369 million views on his YouTube Channel, which is in the Top 100 All-Time Most Viewed channels. “Ridin’ Solo” received Pandora’s 10 billionth thumb.
