NEW YORK, NY–(Marketwire – January 18, 2011) – Elektra recording
artist Bruno Mars is currently sitting on top of the world with his
blockbuster new single, “Grenade.” The track — featured on Mars’
breakthrough debut album, “DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS” — has just
returned to #1 on Billboard‘s
“Hot 100” while simultaneously topping the singles charts in both
Canada and the United Kingdom. This marks the second Mars single to
accomplish the international feat, following the Grammy Award-nominated
“Just The Way You Are” which topped all three countries’ charts
concurrently back in October. As if all that weren’t enough, “Grenade”
is also currently iTunes’ #1 song in both Germany and Ireland.
Here in the US, the #1 success of both “Grenade” and “Just
The Way You Are” establishes Mars as only the sixth-ever solo male
artist in history to reach the top of the charts with his first two
singles and the first to do so in 13 years. What’s more, “Grenade”
recently made history with the third biggest sales week of any US single
ever (with sales of more than 559,000), and has been certified 2x
platinum by the RIAA for total sales exceeding 2 million.
Moreover, the 3x RIAA platinum certified “Just The Way You Are” remains a top 10 favorite on Billboard‘s
“Hot 100,” just as “DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS” has received gold
certification by the RIAA for sales exceeding 500,000. The album is
currently ascending back up the Billboard 200 album chart, surging to the #3 position (where it initially debuted upon its October 2010 release).
As with its smash singles, “DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS” has
also proven an international triumph. In addition to earning platinum
certification in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, the album is an
out-of-the-box gold certified sensation in the UK with 100,000 units
shipped. “DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS” is also currently #1 in Germany, as
well as #1 on the iTunes charts in Germany, Belgium, Holland, Ireland,
and Austria.
Meanwhile, both “Grenade” and “Just The Way You Are” are
dominating multi-format radio outlets across America. The former is
poised to hit #1 at CHR/Pop and is a top 5 success at Rhythmic, while
the latter has also reached top 5 at Rhythmic, #1 at Hot AC, AC and
CHR/Pop. In addition, the companion video for “Grenade” is currently in
heavy rotation across all MTV platforms, as well as VH1, Fuse and
TeenNick. The clip — directed by Nabil (Kanye West, John Legend, Black
Eyed Peas) — has also received over 40 million views via Elektra
Records’ official YouTube channel, located at www.youtube.com/elektrarecords#p/u/27/SR6iYWJxHqs.
With seven total nominations, Mars is the second most-nominated artist for the upcoming 53rd
Annual Grammy Awards, paying tribute to his diverse talents as
performer, songwriter, and producer. Mars got two nominations in the
“Record of the Year” category, for both his featured role on Rebel Rock
Entertainment/Grand Hustle/Atlantic recording artist B.o.B’s #1 hit,
“Nothin’ On You (Feat. Bruno Mars),” as well for his production (with
The Smeezingtons) on fellow Elektra recording artist Cee Lo Green’s
“F**k You.” Both tracks also earned Mars nods for his work as a
songwriter, with “F**k You” named in the “Song of the Year” category and
“Nothin’ On You” listed among the “Best Rap Song” nominees. Mars
received a “Best Male Pop Vocal Performance” nomination for “Just The
Way You Are,” as well as a “Best Rap/Sung Collaboration” nod for
“Nothin’ On You.” Mars — with his Smeezingtons partners, Philip
Lawrence and Ari Levine — is also in the running for the “Producer of
the Year, Non-Classical” award. The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 13th at Staples Center in Los Angeles and will be broadcast live on CBS from 8-11:30 pm (ET/PT).
In addition, Mars is nominated for a 2011 BRIT Award as “Best
International Male” and has just received a pair of nominations for the
upcoming 42nd NAACP Image Awards. He was named in the “Best
New Artist” category, while Cee Lo Green’s Smeezingtons-penned and
produced “Forget You” was nominated for “Outstanding Song.” The 42nd NAACP Image Awards will be presented during a live telecast airing on Friday, March 4th on FOX at 8PM ET.
Released in October, “DOO-WOPS & HOOLIGANS” was greeted
with both popular success and critical acclaim. “The year’s finest pop
debut,” raved Rolling Stone. “Near-flawless…
(the album) delivers pleasure without pretension.” The album further
established 2010 as Mars’ own, which in addition to “Just The Way You
Are,” “Nothin’ On You” and “F**k You,” also included Decaydance/Fueled
By Ramen recording artist Travie McCoy’s top 5 fave, “Billionaire (Feat.
Bruno Mars).”
A charming and charismatic live performer, Mars has spent
much of the past few months on the road. His first-ever North American
headline tour — dubbed “The Doo-Wops & Hooligans Tour” — proved a
sold-out sensation last November and December, followed by appearances
at a slate of holiday-themed “Jingle Ball” radio concerts.
Mars also made a series of high-profile TV appearances, including CBS’ Late Show with David Letterman, NBC’s TODAY and Saturday Night Live, Fuse TV’s A Different Spin with Mark Hoppus, and the nationally syndicated Ellen DeGeneres Show. He was among the stars performing at the Grammy Nominations LiveGlee, including “Marry You” and “Just The Way You Are.”
concert, as well as both the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards and the 2010
Soul Train Awards (where he and B.o.B received “Song of the Year” honors
for “Nothin’ On You”). Furthermore, two songs from “DOO-WOPS &
HOOLIGANS” were featured on a highly rated episode of Fox’s hit series,
